Roast success: the Britannia has made a decision to continue serving roast dinners for just £1
A Kent pub serving a roast dinner for just £1 has decided to continue its bargain offer after an amazing response from punters.

A study two years ago revealed pub roast dinners in Britain ranged between £10 and £20 – but the Britannia in Margate, Kent, are one pub bucking that trend.

The popular watering hole launched the low-cost deal a month ago and have seen sales of their roast soar – going from 120 sold per day to a whopping 432 since.

Previously costing £7.50 per head, landlord Paul Rollins took the plunge to cut the price to an affordable £1.

There is, however, a small catch in that, to get the roast for a quid, customers must spend £3 at the bar – although that’s a given considering a pint or a glass of wine costs around the same.

Rollins told of his delight upon his decision to keep roasts for £1 and said the decision has "really put the Britannia and Margate on the map".

The pub normally does roast beef and roast turkey as the meats, and with that comes roast potatoes, carrots, green beans, parsnips, cauliflower cheese and stuffing balls – that’s a pretty hearty dinner for less than the price of a cup of coffee in most places.

If reviews are anything to go by, you might want to head down to Margate.

One user on Google gave the pub five stars, saying: "Fantastic Sunday roast and large portions."

Another commented: "Absolutely delicious meal and I will be going again.

"I had the beef and my partner had the turkey, both blooming gorgeous."

After the roast dinner success, the Britannia has now decided to branch out with their bargains, and is now launching pie, mash and three games of bingo for just £5.
