James Watt, co-founder of craft brewer and independent pub operator BrewDog, has been added to the list of speakers at The Morning Advertiser’s inaugural Drink Tank event.

Watt, who founded BrewDog in 2007 with Martin Dickie, will address attendees at Drink Tank, taking place on 27 November at Cavendish Conference Venues America Square, London.

The event will provide operators of all sizes with unrivalled insight and bold predictions as to the future direction of all areas of the on-trade drinks category, followed by a series of focus sessions.

A wide range of areas will be covered on the day, including experiential offerings, getting into the minds of influencers, tailoring a low-and-no alcohol drinks offer, new product development and the UK’s drinking habits by region.

We live and die by what’s in the glass

According to figures released at its AGM in April 2019, BrewDog shipped 136m bottles of beer in 2018 – a year in which its total sales amounted to £171.4m and it held a 0.9% share of the UK beer market.

What’s more, in the past 12 months, BrewDog has launched Punk AF, a low-alcohol twist on its flagship IPA, broken into the world’s 25 most valuable beer brands according to Brand Finance and seen its spirits arm, BrewDog Distilling Co, open the ‘hidden’ LoneWolf Gin bar, in a concealed in a remote Scottish location.

Speaking to The Morning Advertiser at BrewDog’s AGM in Aberdeen in April, Watt asserted that an unwavering commitment to product quality is BrewDog’s biggest strength.

“We’ve amazing equipment, we’ve got 26 people working on our quality team, we live and die by what’s in the glass and what’s in the bottle,” he explained. “A steadfast and resolute focus on that is what’s got us here and that’s what’s going to keep us building our business.”

Furthermore, he added that BrewDog’s vow to create unique, high-quality products can spill over to help an on-trade beset by challenges and continue to create rewarding and engaging customer experiences at its venues.

“We support the on-trade by giving them something that is different to the offering that they have, by giving them something that consumers are genuinely excited about, something that’s got momentum and credibility and that loads of people are passionate about in the UK market.”
