Greene King Pub Partners is set to honour its best-performing publicans by launching an annual awards night.

The Greene King Pub Partners Night of Excellence will take place on Wednesday 25 March at Whittlebury Hall in Towcester, Northamptonshire, featuring 15 awards, including Community Pub of the Year, Sports Pub of the Year and Best Multiple Operator, with an overall winner also set to win the ‘Pub of the Year’ crown.

The overall award is sponsored by Suffolk brand Aspall Cyder and the winning publicans will get a trip to Prague for two nights, including flights and accommodation.

Other prizes on the night, provided by sponsors, include trips to Sweden, Denmark, Italy, Amsterdam and Belgium, all with flights and accommodation included.

Greene King Pub Partners managing director Wayne Shurvinton said: “Since joining Pub Partners in 2018, I’ve been impressed with the variety of hugely talented operators running our pubs.”

The great British pub

He continued: “Holding a Night of Excellence is the ideal way to recognise that talent and to reward those who have gone above and beyond to highlight the key role that leased and tenanted pubs play in shaping innovation and adaptability in the wider industry, while also promoting great pubs that sit at the hub of local life.”

Brochures were sent out in November to all 1,000-plus Greene King Pub Partners sites nationwide, inviting partners to put their pub forward in as many categories as they choose, with a deadline of 17 January for nominations.

After this, the Pub Partners operations directors will hold a judging day before a series of mystery visits are carried out in late January and early February.

Shurvinton added: “I look forward to reading the nominations and working with the judges to select the winning pubs – I’m sure it’s going to be tough to pick the winners but the night is also about celebrating the work all our partners do to promote the great British pub.”
