Pubs entering the Great British Pub Awards Community Hero category are in with the chance of scooping a £10,000 bonus for a registered charity or good cause of their choice.

Thanks to generous support from category sponsor Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, all shortlisted finalists in the category will also receive £1,000 to donate, while the category winner will go on to take home £10,000 for a charity or good cause of their choice.

The move follows Coca-Cola’s extensive support of last year’s awards, which saw all category winners claim a grant for a business benefitting project for their outlet  or to donate money to a charity or good cause.

Great incentive

Ed Bedington, editor of The Morning Advertiser, which organises the awards, said: “This is another fantastic show of support from Coke and adds a great incentive for top operators to enter the Community Heroes category.

“Last year’s awards were entirely focused on those operators who did such amazing things within their community, and we’re delighted to be continuing to keep a spotlight on that space.

“I’d urge every pub to get their entries into the awards, both this category and the others available, as we want to shine a real spotlight on what a fantastic sector the UK pub and bar market is.”

Remarkable compassion

Paul Robertson, head of on-premise at Coca-Cola added: “So many pubs have shown remarkable compassion and resilience since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak. It’s been heartwarming to see how they’ve continued to support the communities in which they serve.

“We have enjoyed seeing how the 2020 Coca-Cola Community Pub Fund has helped outlets upgrade their businesses and give something back to the charities and good causes that mean so much to them.  This year’s £15,000 will help winners of the Community Hero category to continue the work in their local areas. Good luck to all the entrants.”

Along with the Community Hero category, pubs can enter the following:

  • Best Pub for Dogs
  • Best Pub for Families
  • Best Pub for Food
  • Best Pub for Late Night
  • Best Pub Garden
  • Best Pub to Watch Sport
  • Best Pub with Rooms
  • Community Hero
