The hospitality and catering industry will be showcased as part of the Government’s Career Starter Apprenticeships campaign.

The scheme will be shown to schools and colleges nationwide, featuring success stories from training providers such as HIT Training and Umbrella Training as well as pub businesses including Mitchells & Butlers, Greene King and Whitbread.

UKHospitality (UKH) chief executive Kate Nicholls said she was delighted the sector is to be featured as part of the campaign.

She added: “Apprenticeships play a critical role in developing future generations of talent and offer an exciting way to learn practical skills on the job.”

Embedding opportunities

Promoting apprenticeships as an entry point into hospitality was a priority aim in UKH’s workforce strategy, according to UKH skills director Sandra Kelly.

She said: “Securing the sector’s inclusion in this campaign will go a long way to further embedding these opportunities within schools and colleges.

“Being able to hear from fellow apprentices about the skills they have developed and the successes they have achieved is so inspiring and I hope they convince thousands more to take up an apprenticeship.”

Mitchells & Butlers is one of the pub companies that put forward apprenticeship success stories for the campaign.

Head of apprenticeships Paul Capper said: “As we continue to face the ever-growing challenges around attracting and retaining new talent into our sector, educating young people on the fantastic career opportunities hospitality can offer is paramount to our future success,

“Working collaboratively to embed apprenticeship opportunities within schools and colleges will support our next generation of leaders and that’s why we are proud to support the Government’s Career Starters Apprenticeships campaign.”

Inspirational stories

Umbrella Training is a fellow business that has provided information as part of the Government’s initiative.

Chief executive and founder Adele Oxberry said: “Umbrella is proud to partner with UKHospitality on this vital campaign, which will really highlight the important role apprenticeships play, not only in our brilliant sector but in all areas of business.

“Our apprentices’ stories are truly inspirational and we are honoured to have been a part of their journey.”
