Last week saw burgers crowned the most popular new addition to pub menus in Lumina Intelligence’s latest Menu Tracker Tool, accounting for more than half (57%) of new dishes added to menus in Q4 of 2022, while chips/wedges/fries were crowned the most popular side dish.

Additionally, recent research from gourmet burger bun brand Americana, based on a study of 500 UK diners, recently revealed American-inspired burgers could provide an “easy opportunity” to boost bottom lines.

The data showed almost half (41%) of consumers would pay between £10 and £14.99 for a burger with an American twist while 24% would pay up to £19.99.

Mark of a good pub

Moreover, 84% of respondents stated they were eating a burger at least once a month when dining out with a further 76% claiming a quality gourmet burger was the “mark of a good pub”.

This follows research from Lightspeed’s Global State of Hospitality Report which recently showed 69% of firms had raised their menu prices in 2022 while 71% said menu pricing had become more difficult to manage.

Furthermore, BrewDog CEO James Watt last month warned if prices rose in line with energy bills, a pint of Punk IPA would cost £27.50 while the price of a burger and fries would soar to an eye-watering £48.75.

Value for money

Americana brand marketing manager Samantha Winsor said: “In the current financial climate, we know customers are on the hunt for value for money and a treat for when they do spend.

“Our research shows an American-inspired gourmet burger topped with a premium bun will meet those needs.”

Winsor continued offering a gourmet burger provided an “easy opportunity” for operators to maximise burger sales.

She added: “It’s clear American burger influence is on the rise, with more than 85% of consumers claiming they would at least sometimes consider ordering an American-style burger.”
