Purnell leaves DCMS
James Purnell, the licensing minister at the time of licensing reform, has left his job as Culture Secretary following today's Cabinet reshuffle.
He is replaced by Andy Burnham (pictured), a former health, Home Office and treasury minister and special advisor to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Burnham was a researcher to former Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell before being elected as MP for Leigh, Greater Manchester, in 2001.
The reshuffle follows yesterday's resignation of Work and Pensions Secretary Peter Hain over allegations relating to donations to his bid to become deputy leader of the Labour Party.
Purnell has taken over Hain's old job.
