Kent pub teams up with London pie and mash shop
M.Manze, London’s oldest pie and mash shop which has three outlets in the capital’s south, will deliver freshly made meat pies and liquor to the Shepherd Neame pub while the mash will be made onsite using the traditional recipe without butter or milk.
The collaboration between the two came after licensee Dawn James posted a picture of the dish on social media as a joke, saying it would be coming to the Telegraph soon.
“We had so many customers asking when it was starting and wanting to know more that we decided to go for it,” said James.
The new pie and mash menu was introduced on 15 August and is available from 12 noon to 7pm five days a week with single mash, pie and liquor priced at £5.50 and double mash, pie and liquor priced at £7.50.
Alongside running a pub, James and her husband are the official Pearly King and Queen of Kensington and Chelsea and are hoping the new pie and mash menu will promote some cockney heritage within the seaside town.
“We have a lot of people down from London in Deal and I think an authentic pie and mash shop will particularly appeal to them. We seem to have hit upon an untapped market,” said James.
