Beer festival drank completely dry thanks to Britain's hottest ever summer
Organisers reluctantly had to turn punters away from the Bromsgrove beer festival after a record 1,800 people turned up - a 50% increase on last year.
The runaway success of the event was due to the warmer weather and increased promotion of the three-day long festival, which has been running for 13 years.
More than 9,000 pints of real ale and 3,000 pints of cider were consumed at the event and organisers were forced to order an extra 5 firkins of bright beer and 3 cider firkins to cope with demand.
Local CAMRA officer Tony Colclough, who was involved in organising the event said: “We were hit by the glorious weather and had record numbers of people on the Friday, and ended up selling out of beer. It can be very difficult to get the balance right when organising a festival-we’re only there for three days so we don’t have the stability pubs have.”
He added that festival organisers will hold a meeting to discuss measures for future festivals.
This weekend is expected to bring strong trading for Britain’s pubs, with temperatures set to climb to almost 30 degrees on Saturday.
