Scottish brewer Innis & Gunn has launched a non-alcoholic beer to coincide with an increasing number of Brits choosing to abstain from drinking through January.

The beer, called Innis & None, is a 0% pale ale containing Vitamin C and ginseng and will be available in 330ml cans at Innis & Gunn’s beer kitchen sites and online from 3 January.

Innis & Gunn founder Dougal Gunn Sharp said: “The versatility of beer excites me as a brewer. Great beer does not necessarily have to contain alcohol – we approached brewing Innis & None, as we do with any of our beers, using quality ingredients to produce a bold, flavoursome taste."

Blend of hops

The beer was made with a blend of Columbus, Tomahawk, Zeus, Magnum, Hercules and Apollo hops.

Gunn added: “Taking the alcohol content down to zero is part of our belief that beer is for everyone, even those who don’t or can’t consumer alcohol.

“I believe this pale ale stands up to the best of them. With the added Vitamin C and ginseng, you’re also getting a boost to the immune system.”

Unique brews

This marks the latest in a string of distinctive brews from Innis & Gunn, which have included a limited edition Vintage 7.7% beer and a beer made using water “harvested” from clouds above the Scottish highlands .

In November, the company launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £1m in equity, smashing its target after just 72 hours and raising a total of £2.5m.

The brewery sold 4.79% of its share capital to 2012 investors. Funds raised will go towards expanding its Beer Kitchen pub concept into England and installing a barrel-ageing hall and new filtration technology at its brewery.
