Eleven soft drinks brands have reached the list of the top 100 beverages operators should stock in their pub.

Coca-Cola, Appletiser and San Pellegrino Aranciata, were some of the best products that made The Drinks List: Top 100 Brands, a list of the best performing soft and alcoholic drinks n the on-trade.

The list, compiled by The Morning Advertiser in association with research company CGA Strategy, looked at both soft and alcoholic drinks and ranked brands on the basis of consumer preference, and sales metrics.

Coca-Cola was crowned the most popular brand in the soft drinks category, claiming fifth place on the overall list as the ‘biggest’ soft drink seller in pubs and bars.

A Coca-Cola European Partners spokesperson said: “The Coca-Cola icon bottle is hugely popular among consumers, providing a premium drinking experience while out of the home.

“For a long time, licensees have been aware of the impact that serving beer in branded glassware can have on increasing their sales.

"Adopting the same practice when serving soft drinks can also create incremental growth.”

In second place, Fever-Tree Tonic Water was accredited by many operators with playing a key role in the gin revival.

Fentimans Tonic Water, also reached a high position in the list as a ‘successful’ premium mixer.

Meanwhile Pepsi came third in the third soft drinks ranking after showing outstanding sales performance in the licensed (6.3%) and leisure (10.6%) sector. Pepsi Max, which gained seventh place in the soft drinks category, also showed strong signs of growth.

Britvic’s J₂0 Orange and Passionfruit was recognised as a popular alternative to alcohol and, since its launch in 1998, is now worth £261m on the on-trade.

Britvic Soft Drinks marketing director Kevin McNair said: “J₂O has been consistently advertised since its launch. This has helped the brand establish itself as the joint most considered soft drinks brand when socialising, with around £37.5m on-trade consumption moments each year.”

Consumer opinion forms the basis of the methodology, highlighting the brands that consumers want to see when they visit the on-trade. As such a 66/33 weighted split was used to determine the list, balancing consumer preferences with actual on-trade sales performance to give the most accurate and comprehensive list of the 100 ultimate drinks brands in the GB on-trade. By measuring brands against a number of equity features, we have also uncovered consumers’ perception of brands and the reasons why they make up the nation’s favourite drinks – are they cool, fun, value for money etc... All sales data used in the report is from the brands and their owners.
