Northern Irish gin wins two international awards
The distillery, which was founded in 2016 in Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, won a silver for its double distilled gin and a bronze for its distinctive packaging.
Founder and managing director of Boatyard Gin Joe McGirr said the award was “a tremendous boost” for the distillery.
'Unique blend'
“We were successful in a field that featured more than 1,000 gins from around the world, including longer-established household names,” he said. “This is a tremendous boost for us in little over a year of distilling our gin with its unique blending of locally-sourced botanicals.
“To be respected in this way by international industry leaders on the judging panel is an enormous achievement and we are really delighted.”
The distillery, which is located in a former boatyard on Lough Erne, has also recently had its double gin selected by Harrods for its Christmas feature later in the year.
The double gin, a smooth, juniper-led dry gin with an ABV of 46%, is the first product from Boatyard.
Annual gin festival
Now in its 48th year, the International Wine & Spirit Competition remains among the most important competitions in the industry. Other winners at this year’s awards in the gin category include Swedish Rose Gin – Hernö, and Bathtub Gin - Navy-Strength.
This week, Nicholson’s pubs will be hosting their second annual GinFest, with customers able to try 38 different premium gin brands including a limited-edition, barrel-aged Tanqueray.
