Stabbing: Police called for review of Oceana's premises licence
Luminar’s Oceana nightclub in Kingston-Upon-Thames, Surrey, has had its premises licence suspended for 14 days following a fatal stabbing at the venue in the early hours of last Thursday (25 October).

A 22-year-old man appeared in court yesterday, charged with the murder of 20-year-old Jamie Sanderson, with another man, 19, arrested on Sunday on suspicion of his murder.

Kingston Council’s Licensing Sub-Committee agreed that the suspension of the club’s licence was an “appropriate interim step” whilst the licence is reviewed.

Council members were asked to consider a Summary review of the premises licence by the Metroplitan Police following the incident.

The Council added that “until the full review hearing, all customers of Oceana must pass through metal detecting search arches which shall be in operation on all entrances to the premises throughout each day when licensable activities are being undertaken.

“In this regard the Sub-Committee noted that it was now Oceana’s policy that no customers will be admitted to the premises where the arch has been triggered and the cause of which cannot subsequently be identified.”

Council Leader Derek Osbourne said: “I support the decision and welcome the opportunity for the Licensing Committee to consider the longer term arrangements for the venue.”
Luminar was unavailable for comment.
