Mark Sargeant, Gordon Ramsay’s former right hand man and former Head Chef of Claridge’s, is to open his first pub, M&C Report understands.

Sargeant, who is currently operating award winning restaurant Rocksalt in Folkstone, is to reopen the Duke William pub in the village of Ickham, near Canterbur.

The new venture will open next month, with Sargeant promising “good pub grub” and an “exciting new selection of beers and wines”.

In June 2011, Sargeant opened two restaurants in Folkestone - Rocksalt is a harbour-front restaurant and bar, while the Smokehouse is a fish and chip restaurant and takeaway.

He is also food director to restaurant group Canteen and oversees the food offer at the Great Northern Hotel in King’s Cross.
