The New World Trading Company (NWTC) has announced it will be launching an all-new brand of pub, and its second Birmingham site, next month.

The company, well known for its Botanist bars, will be opening the Canal House - the sixth brand in its portfolio - which will be “bespoke and totally exclusive” to Birmingham, in August.

Inspired by the 18th-century master canal engineer James Brindley, the bar will be based in Brindley Place at the former James Brindley pub on Bridge Street, creating 80 jobs.

Step back into the past

The pub will enable customers to relive stories of days gone by in Brindley’s “legendary residence", where they will be able to relax in the brew room, study, lounge and drawing room where old meets new.

General manager Liam Carney said following the success of the Botanist, the company is “really excited” about launching the Canal House.

“Birmingham is a great city with lots of ambition and passion,” he said. “By delving into the rich history and heritage of this amazing location, we’ve created a fantastic concept that we are confident locals will enjoy the story of.”

Revolutionary journey

The pub will have two floors and an outdoor seating area and a secret gin distillery that will sit at the back of the first floor bar.

The cocktail menu will take customers on a “revolutionary journey”, with the pub also boasting more than 60 “unique” world ales.

The Canal House will be serving up a “fresh, vibrant take” on pub food that will centre around the rotisserie and grilled meats, alongside a deli section.
