A new fiery vodka from Canada is looking to attract UK distributors in a bid to challenge the major players for a share of the prosperous flavoured vodka sector.

Inferno Pepper Pot vodka, imported by independent drinks company Vine to Wine, contains two huge jalapeno red peppers and claims to be the world's hottest new vodka.

Vine to Wine's Paul Biddle said: "The combination of quadruple distilled vodka and hybrid 'Fire Flames' peppers gives it serious attitude and there's a real kick to it. We think it will appeal to discerning vodka drinkers and compared with other flavoured vodkas it has a unique look and natural taste.

"It takes three weeks for the jalapeno peppers to infuse into the vodka, and if left for up to a period of four months the liquid will turn a golden colour, and the peppers will eventually turn white."

Inferno, 39.3 per cent ABV, is available in a 70cl clear flagon and can be served neat, as a versatile cocktail base or as an ingredient in a Bloody Mary. The peppers can also be eaten or used in cooking.

Over the last few years, the UK vodka market has seen the arrival of a number of flavoured brands.

Absolut, Stolichnaya and Finlandia have all released variations on a theme, while an increasing number of pubs and bars are creating home-made infusions by immersing various ingredients in the vodka, ranging from garlic to Mars bars.
