Time of visit12.45pm, Sunday.

StatusSurrey Free Inns.

InteriorBetting shop meets bingo hall foyer.

MenuLight bites and appetisers included loaded potato skins (£2.50 to £12.50); jumbo jackets (from £3.25 for beans and cheese to £3.75 for BBQ pork); selection of sandwiches from £3.50 to £3.95; 'burger bonanza' - £3.95 for a Classic burger ; salads (£4.75); traditional favourites like bangers & mash for £4.50; Sunday lunch (£3.95); desserts (all £2.25); and a range of hot bevs.

FoodWe didn't stop long. A half hour wait amidst the smokey atmosphere and noise from the television screens for what looked like little more than 'transport café' food prompted a hasty exit . One cappuccino sufficed at £1.25.

ServiceStaff were efficient and at least we were warned of the wait.

VerdictTransport 'caff' with A levels. TV screens and young smokers made it feel like a betting shop. All that was missing was the small, blue biros and The Sporting Life. Food little more than fast food in 'posher' environment.
