Bars remove 'distasteful' ads
Some licensees in London have taken down posters advertising a law firm after they were branded "distasteful".
The posters, which have been put up in lavatories in a selection of bars in the City, advertise the law firm Brookman and are focused on divorce, displaying the words "Ditch the Bitch" and "All Men are Bastards".
The controversial campaign has sparked a flurry of media attention and has led to some licensees refusing to display them, branding them "inappropriate" and "distasteful".
Scott Smith, licensee of the Slug and Lettuce in the City, said he had received a mixed reaction from his customers.
"A few people think it's funny, but others are asking me why these posters are here," Mr Smith said.
"It seems strange to advertise divorce in a pub and perhaps inappropriate."
Some licensees said they had already taken the posters down or were contemplating whether or not to continue displaying them.
Tony Pongslam, licensee of the Sri Thai restaurant in London's Bank area, said that he had already been instructed by his boss to remove the posters.
"The posters are distasteful and we took ours down about two days ago," Mr Pongslam said.
But a spokesman for the solicitors said that the response to the campaign had been good.
He said: "We have only had two complaints which is a very small percentage compared to the people who have rung in and said they like them.
"There has been opposition from some women's groups, but the posters are aimed at both men and women and are not meant to be offensive. They are aimed at people already going through the dilemma of a marriage falling apart."
