North-East operator Dukedom Leisure is looking for new bars and pubs as it begins roll-out of its Aruba brand.

It is set to open a 500-capacity Aruba in Becket Street, Derby, in July in the site of a former Berlins bar bought from Allied Leisure.

This is due to be followed in August by a third in King Street, Darlington, which is being built in a former auction house.

Dukedom bought the first Aruba in Corporation Street, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, a year-and-a-half ago. Named after a Caribbean island, it is described as a contemporary wet-led pub.

The two openings will grow the size of Dukedom's estate to 21 after it also bought a large freehold pub in Hull, East Yorkshire, which was on the market through Christie & Co for £895,000.

A spokesman for Dukedom said the Prince Regent, which is in a former cinema, was trading well as a circuit pub with daytime trade and as a feeder bar to a nearby club. "We will trade it for a while and take a view on it," he added.

Dukedom, which was formed seven-and-a-half years ago, is focused on town centre wet-led pubs and bars in the North-East and the Midlands.

Based in Thornaby, Teesside, it also owns two venue bars branded as Emporium in Hartlepool and Stockton-on-Tees.
