Top chef Rod Peterson, a former Welsh chef of the year, is branching out from food into drink after he bought the Angel Inn in Salem near Llandeilo.

Mr Peterson has cooked for celebrities including James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan and Pavarotti and he is now looking forward to putting his own mark on the pub.

The Angel (pictured) is a village pub situated in a picturesque spot between the Cambrian and Black Mountains. It has two bars and a function room as well as a beer garden.

Mr Peterson, who bought the pub with his partner, intends to emphasise food with fresh bread, pastries and local produce, including meat and fish. The couple also hopes to open some bed and breakfast accommodation.

"Although it took a while for the transaction to go through, we knew that the Angel was the property for us and we are very excited to be here," said Mr Peterson.

"Looking to the future, we are now open for lunch and we have been delighted with the response so far."

The pub was sold at offers over £200,000 for the freehold.
