UK pub operators have just over two weeks to nominate individuals for the Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers Operations Managers Awards.

The Awards, now in its sixth year, recognises and rewards the best operational talent in the country.

Supported by Miller Genuine Draft, the Operations Manager Awards, aims to unearth the top area manager in managed pubs and bars, and the top business development manager in tenanted or leased operations.

Once all the nominations have been received, the strongest candidates will be put through a comprehensive examination of their abilities and talents.

They will be exposed to the scrutiny of front-line licensees, managers and industry executives alike.

Winners will be announced in September at the Pub and Bar show at London's Olympia.

The reward will be an autumn trip to the Miller Brewery in Milwaukee and then on to Chicago, where winners will embark on a retail study tour.

At the launch of the awards, ALMR chief executive Nick Bish said: "It's an exhaustive process but very, very worthwhile. Not just for the winners but also for their employees who get the chance to benchmark their people against the best of the rest of the industry."

The competition has a habit of acting as a springboard for those destined for great things. Last year Guy Arnold was made regional director of Enterprise Inns shortly after claiming the business development manager award.

Previous winners also include Simon Longbottom who now heads up 130 pubs for Six Continents under the award-winning brand, Ember Inns. Speaking at the ALMR's 10th birthday, Mr Longbottom, who won the award as a BDM with Mill House Inns, said: "I was really keen to have a bash at the award. It was very testing.

"The awards were great for me and also great for Mill House. The event is relevant and laudable," he concluded.

So if you think you would like to pit your best against the rest, download your free nomination form, fill it in and send it to: Operations Managers Awards, The ALMR, Third Floor, International House, Ealing, London, W5 5DB or email: opsaward@almr.org.uk.
