Two Devon village pubs with a superb reputation for their community involvement and good food have been sold by Bettesworths. The Windsor Arms at Bradiford, near Barnstaple, and the Red Lion at Rookery Hill, Oakford, near Tiverton, both attracted considerable interest because of their locality close to the Exmoor National Park. The Windsor Arms, pictured, is a busy community freehouse, supporting five skittle teams, two darts team, shove halfpenny, euchre, quiz and football teams. The business, which is mainly wet with a barrelage figure of around 160 per annum, is well established and, adds the agent, enjoys a healthy turnover and profit. It was sold to Duncan Weed off an asking price of £235,000. The grade-II listed 17th-century Red Lion has an emphasis on a warm welcome and is, according to Bettesworths' Matt Bettesworth, a growing business which has shown increasing levels of turnover and has a fine reputation for well-kept ale and good food. It has a character trading area, 20-cover restaurant, kitchens, three en-suite letting rooms, and spacious owners accommodation. The freehold inn was sold to a Mr and Mrs Howells from Essex off an asking price of £199,950.
