Crewe Hall in Cheshire believes it has installed the UK's first revolving bar. Owner Philip Humphreys said: "I saw this amazing circular bar in America. It wasn't round, it was revolving. For those sitting at the bar, it presented a constantly changing view and you could people watch without being too overt." In the UK, bar design company BarOlympic sourced a turntable from a company that specialises in revolving platforms for car shows. Humphreys said: "The specification theoretically allows for the weight of up to 200 people." One particular challenge was designing the unit in the knowledge that the "under bar" gets displayed. Said BarOlympic's Neil Edwards: "A revolving, circular bar is, by definition, at some stage showing the bartender's eye-view to guests they will get to see parts that normally only the staff see. So the bar had to be elegant all round literally." The bar features three work stations, one of them designed for cocktails. The other two include slide-topped bottle coolers, till units and beer fonts.
