The George Inn, the only pub in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales village of Thoralby, near Leyburn, North Yorkshire, has been sold. The Grade II listed stone building has been sold by the Leeds office of Christie & Co on behalf of owners Graham Peckett and Ian Scott, who bought the business 18 months ago as their first venture into the licensed trade and now wish to move back to city life. The purchaser, Charles Martin, is a qualified accountant and businessman from Middleton One Row, near Darlington. The pub stocks a range of ales, including real ale, while a selection of freshly-prepared food using locally-sourced ingredients is served in a separate dining area. The accommodation currently comprises four bedrooms (three with en-suite facilities) of which two are currently available as letting rooms. Planning permission has been granted to convert two of the bedrooms to a lounge and to create two letting bedrooms within a converted outbuilding. Outside there is a small garden area with lovely views over the surrounding countryside, and a car park. The George was sold for an undisclosed figure from an asking price of £265,000 for the freehold.
