  • Pub company and brewer Brain's​ is continuing on the acquisition trail with the purchase of six pubs in Wales.

It bought four former Beefeater​ pubs from Whitbread​: the Watermill​ in Ogmore, the Aubrey Arms​ in Bonvilson, the George​ in Mumbles (pictured)​ and the Pump House​ in Swansea. It plans to review the businesses and make investment in the sites.

The company has also acquired two sites in Cardiff Bay from Scottish & Newcastle​. Brains has refurbished the former Bar 38​ and reopened it as a bar called Salt while the former Via Fossa​ is to be relaunched as Terra Firma​.

Shepherd Neame​, the Kent based brewer, has acquired the Compasses Inn​ at Crundale. The 15th century pub was at risk of closure before the company bought it. The acquisition takes its estate in the South East of England to 369.

The Bloomsbury Tavern​, in London's Shaftesbury Avenue has been given a £60,000 refurbishment by brewer Shepherd Neame. The brewer plans to spend £20m investing in their pubs over the next three years.

Grade II pub, the Masons Arms​ at Knowstone, near South Moulton in Devon, is on the market for £695,000 for the freehold interest.

The property has a restaurant, commercial kitchen, two bars and a patio for 26 people.

The turnover of the inn has increased significantly since the completion of a new garden restaurant. Last years trading accounts showed a turnover of £323,390 excluding VAT and healthy profits.

The inn is situated close to the market town of South Moulton and the Devon coast of Woolacoombe, Croyde, Saunton Sands and Westward Ho!.

An 18th Century coaching inn is up for sale in Plympton, a suburb of Plymouth. The George Hotel​ is a character pub with lounge and public bar areas, a function room with room for up to 120 people, a commercial kitchen, a digital TV system and parking for up to 40 vehicles.

The 20-year lease from the Unique Pub Company​ is available at £97,500 including goodwill, fixtures and fittings, stock and valuation. Taylor Son & Creber​ is handling the sale. Call 01752 202035.
