Myliko International (Wines)

by Graham Ridout Who are they? Myliko was established in 1991 and initially specialised in Hungarian wine. The company moved with market requirements and introduced wines from South Africa, Spain, Chile, and Australia. It now has more than 200 wines in its portfolio and was one of the first firms to employ flying winemakers to advise vineyards on production, quality and other issues. Although based in the north west, it supplies nationwide. Two years ago, Myliko took over Hazeley Wines where the managing director, Simon Ely, became Myliko's commercial director, looking after the UK delivered side of the business, including the on-trade. It has multiple on-trade accounts and is actively looking to develop on-trade business over the next few years. Main brands: Spice Trail, Peaks View, Clear Mountain, William Cole, Welmoed, Helderberg, Henkell Trocken and Deetlefs Estate. Unique selling point: By working closely with the producer and with input from its own flying winemakers, Myliko is able to supply wines of exceptional quality, specifically suited to the UK palate and at affordable prices. Number of employees: 12 Turnover: In excess of 500,000 cases per year. Future plans: Includes the launch of Italian wines in the imminent future and relocating to bigger, purpose-built offices, housing a unique tasting room for in-house tastings and a room to conduct training.
