The car park of Cambridge pub the Boathouse was cordoned off on Monday as police investigated an allegation of indecent assault. A man had walked into a police station at 4.30am on Monday and claimed he was assaulted in the area. Police made an arrest about four hours later. Forensic teams have been examining the car park and public toilets opposite. Armed gang tie up hosts Masked robbers held a host and his partner at gunpoint at a Merseyside pub while they looted the premises. The gang of five tied up Brian Buckley, licensee of the Swan Hotel in Aughton, and his partner Elaine McConville and stole a number of valuable possessionsin the early hours of Tuesday 26 August. The raiders broke in at about 5.30am through a window and woke Buckley when they pushed through the bedroom door. One of the men held a gun to his head, and the others were carrying a sledgehammer, a knife and a bat. The men tied up McConville with wires and threatened to cut her. They fled with £2,500 from the tills and £1,500-worth of jewellery, including a gold watch and a wedding ring which originally belonged to McConville's mother. They also took 35 bottles of Smirnoff. The men were wearing dark clothing with socks on their hands. They had Liverpool accents and sounded as if in their mid to late 20s. Chopper to hunt yobs Suffolk Police are trying to get local licensees and club owners involved in a campaign aimed at cutting late-night drunken violence in Newmarket. The month-long initiative, launched this week, aims to persuade pub goers and clubbers to cut down on drinking to help reduce the risk of being involved in or a victim of alcohol-fuelled violent crime. Suffolk police intend to use a helicopter to patrol the skies above Newmarket to make it easier to spot troublemakers. They may also use a mobile CCTV system to monitor the levels of violence in the town. A recent survey found that more than 80% of violent crimes in Newmarket after 7pm are committed by drunken revellers. Man killed in shooting A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot dead as he left the car park of a Nottinghamshire pub. Marvyn Luke Bradshaw, 22, was shot as he drove out of the Sporting Chance in Bulwell just before 4am on Saturday. He is believed to have lived locally. Police forensic teams have examined the area, and are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Officers hurt in spikings Police suspect that two off-duty police officers who were taken ill while drinking in a Tyneside pub were the victims of spikings. The officers were drinking at the Voyager in South Shields last Thursday when they suddenly became very ill. Paramedics were called and one officer was taken to hospital but released after treatment. The other didn't need medical help. The two officers were with around 40 colleagues from the Durham force after finishing their shift. Most were drinking from bottles but some including the victims were believed to have been drinking from glasses. A man was arrested on suspicion of spiking the drinks. Police warn women Exeter Police are warning women to be aware of drink spiking while visiting pubs and clubs in the city, after a number of recent incidents. Two weeks ago a young woman collapsed during a night out. Doctors at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital said her symptoms were similar to those caused by a date-rape drug. Police are not naming the pub, but are checking CCTV footage from the venue. They confirmed that similar incidents had occurred in Exeter in the past month. PC Roy Adams, of Exeter Police, urged that if anyone is with a woman who collapses or becomes disorientated, they should remain with her, and ensure she is safely escorted home or to hospital.
