Police have used their powers under the Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 to close a Birmingham nightspot, the Plazza Café in Lozells Road, Hands-worth, where three clubbers have been shot dead. It follows the murder of newlywed George Terralounge, 30, from Handsworth, who was shot dead in the club a fortnight ago, after what was described as a "trivial" spat. The closure order stated the club be "closed immediately to the public". Arnold Salmon, 43, from Handsworth, who runs the club, was also ordered to pay £2,500 in court costs and told he faces jail if he opens again. The club, which has no drinks or entertainment licences, has a history of violence. Acting Detective Chief Inspector Kenny Bell said: "This is part of an ongoing strategy to completely close the Plaza nightclub and prevent any further incidents from taking place. "Over the past 15 years it has been the nucleus of problems in that area. "Removing the premises will have a big impact on making the area safer, impact on crime reduction and go some way to supporting the people living, working and using the Lozells corridor.
