Foster's, Scottish Courage's lager brand, has launched its annual campaign to help licensees boost profits with barbecues.

It is the third year Foster's has run its "G'Day For A Barbie" promotion, which has been designed to increase footfall and drive profits in pubs.

Foster's barbecues will be held in more than 6,000 pubs across the UK this summer and licensees taking part will be given a No Worries Barbie Guide. The guide includes helpful tips including barbecue recipes, technical information and marketing advice to make each event a success.

Licensees will also be given gas Barbie burners, gazebos and point-of-sale kits. Selected pubs will even be given a branded Foster's marquee.

Lorne MacLennan, Foster's brand manager, said: "More than 70 million barbies were held in the UK last year and the number is growing by 15 per cent each year.

"Last year's hot summer, combined with Foster's support, saw a sales increase of 10 per cent in participating pubs.

"Apart from being great fun, barbecues work well because they drive footfall and boost profit."

Union Pub Company is one of the pubcos to sign up to the Foster's initiative with 200 of its licensees taking part this summer.

It might not be sunny every day but British pubs have well and truly got the hang of making barbecues brilliant. If your pub's chefs have great grill skills and your summer food sales are focused firmly on the garden, you could win a prestigious award. Enter Best Barbecue Experience, sponsored by Foster's, in the Publican Pub Food Awards 2004 and make sure the whole country finds out about your great grub.
