The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has warned that the deadline for door supervisors to apply for new licences is fast approaching in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

From June 4 it will be a legal requirement for door supervisors working in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight to hold an SIA door supervisor licence and all local authority door supervisor registration schemes in the first enforcement area will come to an end.

Door supervisors working without an SIA licence will risk prosecution, and licensees using unlicensed door supervisors put their premises licence at risk.

The SIA was set up under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001 to control licensing of the private security industry and launched the new Level 2 National Certificate to train door supervisors in December 2003.

To obtain the new licence rigorous training that included key areas of door supervision such as conflict management, emergency procedures and drug awareness.

Andy Drane, Deputy Chief Executive of the SIA, said: "Immediate action will be taken by the police against those found working without an SIA licence. Door supervisors, managers and premises licence holders remain strictly liable for any failure to comply."

The SIA training has been available since the beginning of the year and all door staff will legally have to hold the new licence by April 2005.

In April the SIA reported fears that very few door supervisors had applied for licenses.

The SIA has since gained an agreement from the Inland Revenue for its licence fee to be tax deductible.
