Pubs are being given a helping hand to choose the best beers to match with summer menus by the Beer Naturally campaign.

Beer Naturally, which was launched to promote the good qualities of British beer, has released a new guide called Summer Dining with a Difference, funded by Coors and the Independent Family Brewers of Britain.

The guide explains the basics of matching beer and food and suggests pairings for summer menus such as matching wheat beers with salads, shellfish and grilled vegetables.

"There is a wide variety of beers out there with wildly differing flavours and each of these suits a broad range of summer dishes," said Beer Naturally's Dr Paul Hegarty.

"Any quality food outlet that stocks just one style of beer is failing to offer customers a full, modern gastronomic experience.

"We hope the guide will encourage pubs serving food to examine their portfolio of beers and to encourage their customers to experiment."
