The licensee of a famous pub in Kent has disappeared with his wife leaving thirsty regulars with nowhere to drink.

Adam Conti and his wife Hayley who ran the Black Horse pub in Pluckley - better known as the pub in the hit drama series The Darling Buds of May - have disappeared without a trace. No one knows why but there is speculation that the couple, who had a three month baby, were experiencing money troubles.

Not only is the pub famous for starring in a successful TV series, the village is also named in the Guinness Book of Records as Britain's most haunted village. The pub is alleged to have its own resident ghost who steals keys and knocks over drinks and on Hallowe'en more than a thousand people arrived at the pub to find the doors locked and the lights off.

The pub is owned by Midlands-based pubco Enterprise Inns. A spokeswoman for the company said: "We cannot confirm the whereabouts of the licensee nor comment on events, however, please be assured that Enterprise is working hard to make sure the pub is back open and trading as soon as possible for the local community."
