Door staff in Burnley, Lancashire, are being asked to wear fluorescent jackets at night to make it easier for punters and CCTV cameras to detect them. The pilot scheme has been organised by Burnley AgainstNight-time Disorder (BAND), which includes licensees, Burnely council, police, taxi companies and others.

Punch fined for gross negligence'

Punch has been fined £7,000 for "gross negligence" after a pane of glass fell from a window of the Trinity public house in Bath, injuring a passer-by. Bath Magistrates' Court heard the windows were in a poor condition, with rotten woodwork and missing putty. The pubco also paid costs of £3,829 and £490 compensation to the victim.

JD Wetherspoon and Ember Inns have won awards for having some of the best toilets in Britain. They were given Standards of Excellence trophies in the UK Loo of the Year Awards after more than five of their pubs gained five-star ratings.
