Ball in aid of tsunami victims

The Lion Inn in Trellech, Monmouthshire, is holding a fundraising ball in aid of the Indian Ocean tsunami victims. Being held on 5 February the event includes a three-course dinner and live music for £40. The pub's owners, Tom and Debbie Zsigo, aim to raise £5,000 for the Tsunami appeal at the event.

Gastro pub changes hands

Celebrity chef Paul Doherty has sold his award-winning Punch Bowl gastro pub at Crosthwaite in the Lake District to fellow Cumbrian pub operator Paul Spencer.

Spencer, co-owner of the Drunken Duck at Barngates near Hawkshead, plans to close down the Punch Bowl for three months for a major refurbishment. Eight new letting bedrooms are to be added with further work carried out on the bar and lounge area. When the pub re-opens in the spring it will offer customers a restaurant gastro-style menu in addition to more simple food served in the bar.

Doherty who won three Michelin stars alongside Albert Roux at London's celebrated Le Gavroche plans to devote more time to his domestic kitchen equipment business in Windermere.
