A Cheshire pub revered for its culinary delights is on the market.

The Chetwode Arms is a traditional trading concern in the characterful village of Lower Whitley, near Warrington, and is for sale at £155,000 leasehold.

"The business trades off an enviable reputation and is renowned both locally and throughout the affluent surrounding areas," said Christie & Co's Manchester office, which is handling the sale.

"Revered far and wide for its culinary delights, the business gains further trade by serving cask ales and the current owners have created a homely atmosphere.

"With three distinct restaurant areas, the trading area creates an atmosphere of privacy and intimacy for diners without sacrificing the atmosphere of a rural retreat frequented by everyday patrons."

Features include a large fireplace, exposed beams, antique settle seating and a quarry-tile floor, plus the snug and bar area have panelled walls.

The pub also boasts an immaculately-presented and frequently-used bowling green.

Christie & Co says the quality of food has burgeoned under the owner's careful supervision.

The business was listed inLes Routiers Guide 2004 The Road to Good Food and was named finalist in a national trade publication's Best Food Award 2003, Cheshire Life Food Pub of The Year 2000/2001, and runner-up of the Restaurant & Pub Challenge 2003.

Christie & Co said the pub offers any new owner "an established and developed trading concern from which to build any new trade" and scope exists to substantially develop wet trade.

Outside is parking for 85 cars, a covered seating area overlooking the bowling green, children's play area and a patio.

The pub has four-bedroom owner's accommodation.

Christie & Co's Andrew Dodd said: "Rarely does such an exquisite operation with an established trading history become available on the open market.

"It is imperative that any potential viewers take the opportunity to dine at the restaurant to appreciate the quality of this particular operation. The combination of a beautiful setting and an exceptional business should prove extremely popular."
