One of Cornwall's most historic waterfront pubs, the Boatman in Saltash, has new owners. Former restaurateurs Andy and Yvonne Coade have taken on the InnSpired Inns lease for the 16th-century pub through agent Huntley & Partners. The couple formerly ran the Capers restaurant in Looe.

Low drinks sales, low fee, urges BHA

The British Hospitality Association (BHA) is to urge the licensing fees review panel to reduce the amount paid by small hotels and restaurants with low alcohol sales but high rateable values. The BHA says many small businesses have to pay more in fees than they earn from selling alcohol because fees are based on rateable value. Chief executive Bob Cotton said: 'This is basically inequitable.

Calf named after helpful host

Llangedwyn licensee Scott Currie, who went to the aid of a distressed cow giving birth has had the calf named after him. The Green Inn host helped deliver the calf with the aid of a passing doctor. The grateful farmer has named the calf Scott.

Tickets go on sale for HCIMA ball

Tickets have gone on sale for the Hotel & Catering International Management Association (HCIMA) President's Ball. The Monopoly-themed black-tie event will be hosted by HCIMA president Robin Morden on 17 November at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel, London. Tickets are £89 for members and £99 for non-members. Sixty jobs on offer at £3.5m site

Brewers Fayre and Premier Travel Inn are hosting a recruitment day on 12 July in Swindon, Wiltshire. Sixty jobs are on offer at the new sites in Kembrey Business Park. Owner Whitbread has invested £3.5m in the new pub restaurant and hotel. The recruitment day runs from 10am to 4.30pm at Swindon Jobcentre.

Hunt for capital's most stylish

Members of the Peroni Nastro Azzurro marketing team will be scouring London's stylish bars in search of the capital's most stylish 'barflies. The chosen ones will be bought a Peroni and have their photo taken by the Peroni papparazzi. The pictures will be published on the Peroni website.
