  • Nescafé speciality coffees
    Supplier: Nestlé FoodServices

I had a customer ask me for a mocha the other day - I slapped him round the face and barred him. But, would you Adam and Eve it, it turns out to be some sort of coffee.

The new Nescafé Speciality range offers a taste of café culture, apparently. I'm not sure how well that will go down with some of my regulars, but we'll give it a go - it might help us take on the Starbucks that has opened down the road where the horsemeat shop used to be.

The range includes Nescafé Cappuccino, Latté and Mocha lines in a 500g tin rather than the usual 750g version, which will save on storage space - you can't swing a cat in our kitchen. Trust me, we've tried. Each tin makes 27 cups of coffee, and you can also get handy individual serve sachets. Seven sugars with mine, please...

You can get your free samples of the Nescafé Speciality range by calling 0800 745 845.

Football Butter Balls
Supplier: Vivotec

We used to have a barman here whose nickname was 'butter balls', but that's another story. These new Football Butter Balls might be a nice touch when we start planning our menus for the World Cup next year.

They're even German, which is where the tournament is being held. That might not go down too well with old Reg, who has never quite got over them bombing the bookies in 1941 - but he only ever orders a light ale anyway.

These unsalted white German butter portions are available from frozen food wholesalers nationwide, I'm told, and can be served straight from freezer to table. They come packed in 100 portions per bag, two bags per 3kg case. Lovely...

Aviko Skin on fries
Supplier: Aviko

You can't just serve chips any more, can you? Customers expect something a bit more sophisticated and authentic. I blame that Nigella Lawson, personally.

Anyway, these new Skin on fries from Aviko look to be just the ticket. Topped and tailed with crunchy potato skin, they're an easy way to add that 'home-made' rustic touch to your menu.

Aviko suggest serving skin on fries with slow-cooked, marinated lamb chops, a lightly dressed garden salad and a little sour cream for dipping, served with a chardonnay. Nice idea, but I think they'll go just as well with our jumbo sausage baguette and a half of cooking lager.

Lincat Opus 700 fryer range
Supplier: Lincat

Frying tonight! Those nice people at Lincat have introduced four new fryers, two gas and two electric, to their heavy duty Opus 700 range of prime cooking equipment. I was just saying the other day that we need a new fryer, ours has really seen some action and those new wedges could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

These new models are narrower than the ones they've replaced in the Lincat range, and so take up less floor space - did I mention how cramped our kitchen is? But spookily, the redesign means you get the same output of fried food in a smaller space. It's amazing what they can do nowadays, isn't it? Like our Edna's Teflon hip.

Anyway, as with all products in the Lincat Opus 700 range, the new fryers are supplied with a two-year parts and labour warranty as standard. Very useful.
