Three pub chefs have been highly commended in a competition to find the best dish using Worcester sauce.

They are: Chris Bicknell, head chef, of the Wheatsheaf Inn in Grayswood, Haslemere, Surrey, for his glazed maple syrup lamb dish, Darren Nawrocki, head chef at the George, in Abbotsleigh, Bristol, for his Packed Lea & Perrins WorcesterBurger, and Timothy Whitehead, chef at the Haymaker Inn, in Chard, Somerset, for his Fiery Beef dish - fillet steak with a spicy chilli sauce.

Restaurant chef Daniel McGregor is £10,000 richer after scooping the overall title in the WorcesterChef 2005 competition, organised by HP Foodservice. Daniel, of the Marsden Rattler in Tyne & Wear, beat 11 other finalists with his dish of seasoned duck breast with noodles. The competition was judged by a panel of chefs including Anton Edelmann.

To mark the competition, HP Foodservice has produced a booklet featuring Daniel's recipe and all the others that made the shortlist.

Copies of this are available free by calling 0208 6868939.
