The freehold of the Woolpack, known to millions as the pub in ITV's long-running soap series Emmerdale, is being offered for sale through licensed property agent Westlake & Co.

Originally known as the Commercial Inn, the pub changed its name as a result of the popularity of the show.

Up to 10m viewers tune into the programme six nights a week.

Situated between the huge catchment areas of Leeds and Bradford in the village of Esholt, the pub has two traditional bars with beamed ceilings and open fires.

Although filming moved from the village seven years ago to a purpose-built set nearby, thousands of visitors still flock to Esholt every year from countries as far afield as Finland, Japan and New Zealand.

Alastair McDowell, of agent Westlake & Co, said: 'The Woolpack is unique. You would never get the opportunity to buy the Rovers Return or the Queen Vic but here is a chance to buy a real TV celebrity business with genuine potential.'

The pub is currently closed after the last tenant left two months ago. It is now on the market freehold, with the agent seeking offers in the region of £600,000.
