The Publican is teaming up with National Pubs Week to showcase the annual event to the pub trade and pub-goers.

Under the Proud of Pubs banner, The Publican and organiser the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) will be aiming to encourage more pubs to get behind the initiative - and more customers to visit pubs at a quiet time of the year for the industry.

Licensees will be encouraged to use National Pubs Week 2006, which takes place from February 18 to 25, as a springboard to organise something different in their pub, and give their image a boost off the back of a national promotion.

CAMRA chief executive Mike Benner said: "The Publican's Proud of Pubs campaign fits in perfectly with the aims of National Pubs Week and we look forward to a large number of pub owners and managers coming on board to help us promote all the positive attributes that pubs have to offer."

As the exclusive trade media partner of National Pubs Week, The Publican will be running a series of articles highlighting how licensees can make the most of the event in the new year.

A total of 10,000 free promotional packs, including beermats, posters, advice sheets and press release templates, are available from CAMRA to help pubs get free press coverage in their local media.

"Pubs have been given a hard time over the past few months in some of the national press over binge-drinking and the new licensing legislation and have incorrectly been tarnished with the 24-hour drinking tag," continued Mr Benner.

"Both the National Pubs Week and Proud of Pubs campaigns give the industry a chance to answer back and show what responsible licensees and pubs can offer the vast majority of ordinary pub-goers."

Win Pubs Week t-shirts!

CAMRA and The Publican are offering 10 exclusive National Pubs Week t-shirts for 50 readers to mark the start of the campaign for 2006.

The first 50 licensees to register for a free promotional pack will each receive 10 t-shirts - the shirts could be used by staff, or could be given out as competition prizes.

Please quote 't-shirt offer' when ordering your material to be considered for this promotion (see contact details above).
