A few tips on how you can promote your pub

IDEAS FOR NATIONAL PUBS WEEK 2006 EVENTS

The key to the success of National Pubs Week is for pub goers to encourage their local pubs to take part, pubs to arrange events and for people to visit more pubs more regularly between the 18th and 25th February 2006.

Today's leisure industry is more competitive than it is has ever been. Gone are the days when large numbers of people came through the door just because it was a pub! It's important that pubs improve their marketing and realise they need to offer facilities and entertainment that their locals want if they are to compete against the increasing number of 'leisure options' such as international restaurants, coffee bars, wine bars, internet cafes etc.

The events do not have to be the most imaginative ideas, just ones that will interest local people. Here is a list of ideas for pub events and questions you could consider:

Themed nights

Fancy dress, different styles of cooking (Mexican, Chinese, Italian, English etc), types of music

Pub Crawls

Can you set up pub crawls with other local pubs? Can you produce a passport scheme that people are given as an incentive to visit all pubs on the passport e.g. 1/2 price meal, free drink, t-shirt sponsored by a local brewery or all the pubs participating.

Local entertainment

Local bands, Comedians, Magicians, Impressionists etc

Food promotions

1/2 priced food for pensioners at quiet times in the week, Free starter with every meal, Buy 2 meals get 1 Free, Buy 2 meals and kids eat for Free etc

Traditional pub games evenings

Free games and competitions

Free Travel to rural pubs

Lay on Free Mini-Bus service that makes two journeys from towns to rural pubs in an evening, How do you promote this facility?

Charity Evening

Donate 10p on each pint bought throughout the night, raffles with local brewery giving away prizes, invite local press to feature the event good publicity

These are only a few ideas and we are sure that you can think of many more that will suit the interests of your local community.
