Police are investigating the suspicious death of a Gloucestershire licensee.

South African Jacqui Bisset, 30, was found dead in the upstairs flat at Cafe Rene, in Greyfriars, off Southgate Street, Glos - the only 24 hour premises in the city.

The popular pub landlady ran the premises with her partner.

Gloucester police spokeswoman Zoe Young said the cause of the death was "unexplained" but that officers had not yet ruled out suspicious circumstances.

Police guarded the doors of the pub as scenes of crime officers and detectives investigated the circumstances after the grizzly discovery at 7.40am yesterday (Monday).

Nobody has been arrested in connection with the death.

The premises has been shut and is expected to remain closed for a week.

A friend of Ms Bisset, who did not want to be identified, told local reporters: "Jacqui was very outgoing and loved to socialise.

"She always had a big smile on her face and was great to be around. She was a bubbly woman and knew how to have a good time.

"She was easy to talk to and very caring. Jacqui will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her."
