A Westminster pub frequented by MPs banned smoking for a day as part of a total ban campaign.

The Westminster Arms, just a short protest march from the Houses of Parliament, went smoke-free for the day to back an all-out ban. I will be voting for a total ban, including in clubsLabour MP Maria Eagle

MPs who visited were treated to a glimpse of a possible smokeless future thanks to campaign group SmokeFree Liverpool.

Landlady Marie Dolan told Liverpool's Daily Post: "I would love the pub to be smoke-free every day. I work here seven days a week and the smokers can make it horrible and uncomfortable."

Among the MPs who dropped by was Maria Eagle, Labour Garston.

The education minister said afterwards: "I will be voting for a total ban, including in clubs. We regulate clubs in other ways, so why not when it comes to smoking? People work there."

MPs will vote on the smoke ban legislation on Tuesday and the Morning Advertiser will bring you the result and reaction as it happens on this website.
