The Morning Advertiser has teamed up with Scottish & Newcastle to recognise the outstanding contribution Britain's pubs make to their local community.

It is estimated that pubs raise more than £100m a year for good causes.

£25,000 giveawayThroughout 2006, we'll be giving away £25,000 to good causes nominated by pubs that have demonstrated community spirit.

Every month, one pub will be awarded £1,000 to donate to a registered charity of their choice.

Monthly winners will also win a VIP trip for two to one of the John Smith's horse-racing days.

At the end of the year, nine monthly winners will be entered into a grand final to win a further £15,000 donation for their favourite charity.

S&NUK free trade businesses director Willie Crawshay said: "The pub took a battering in 2005 as many chose to only see the negative aspects of our industry.

"This scheme salutes trade heroes who find time to raise funds for those less fortunate or for the wider community."

Nominate your pub*If you think your pub or bar has played a special role in the community and want to be considered for an award, drop us a line explaining how your pub helped good causes this year.

Judges will be looking for pubs showing a genuine commitment to fund-raising - on a local or national level - in the past 12 months.

To be in with a chance of winning our first monthly prize in March, send your name, address and telephone number, along with an explanation of 500 words or less, outlining your efforts to help the community to: Rosie Davenport, Features Editor, Morning Advertiser, William Reed Publishing, Broadfield Park, Crawley, West Sussex, RH11 9RT or e-mail ebfvr.qniracbeg@jvyyvnz-errq.pb.hx.

Terms and ConditionsThe deadline for entries for the April award is 30th March.

All community awards will be made directly to a registered charity nominated by the winning pub or bar. Payments will not be made to winners directly. The judges' decision is final. Winners can choose to attend any John Smith's race from a published calendar, subject to availability - travel and accommodation not included.
