St George's Day has steadily raised its profile in recent years, thanks in large part to Bedford brewer Charles Wells which has run campaigns to give the occasion bank holiday status and in the process attach its Bombardier premium ale brand to the event.

While St Patrick's Day is still a bigger party at most pubs, the St George's opportunity is definitely there, especially this year when April 23 falls on a Sunday. According to the latest results from thePublican.com's poll more than six in 10 licensees will be celebrating.

You could even use the day for a trial run of your World Cup activity - break out the St George's flags and show that 1966 final one more time! Ideas for theming your Sunday lunchtime menu were featured on the site last week and if you're looking for more inspiration go to Charles Wells' special website www.thevalueofstgeorge.com. And why not extend the occasion further with a quiz? All you need do is include a themed round and quiz company Pawprint has supplied some questions.
