A Hertfordshire pub owned by Wellington Pub Company has been refused a licence after 15 years of trouble and complaints from residents.

Three Rivers District Council threw out Wellington's application for its outlet, the Jet, in Hayling Road, South Oxhey.

The pub shut in January and a new licence had to be obtained before it could reopen.

But lack of clarity in the application and a petition headed

by local councillor Kerron Cross means the pub will remain closed. Cross said there has been trouble at the Jet for the past 15 years.

He told the Borehamwood & Elstree Times: "There have been problems with fights and drunken behaviour for about 15 years, but the past five have been the worst."

Peter Gullis, ops director of Wellington's management company Criterion Asset Manage-

ment, said: "We've lodged an appeal against the council's decision and we hope to reopen.

"Incidents cited at the hearing were from the past ten years and some occurred while the pub was shut - so this is a very complicated matter."
