I don't know, we've only had the garden open five minutes and someone's already carved a swear word into one of our picnic benches. And it was spelled wrong - I blame the schools, they just don't focus on the basics these days. Silly klots!

Tetley display stand

Tetley

I'm not sure about fruit teas. Young Wayne who works behind the bar here drinks them, lovely-looking boy but a bit on the sensitive side, if you know what I mean. I prefer something a bit more robust, myself, with four sugars, but we do sell a few speciality teas in the summer. If you buy six boxes of any Tetley speciality, fruit & herbal or green tea between June 5 to July 17, you can get a four-tier stand to show them off absolutely free. I wonder how well the orange & peach would go with a custard cream.

Bernard Matthews Salmon Fillets

Bernard Matthews

One of the mums who comes in here was moaning the other day that we don't have enough healthy food on our kids' menu. She might have a point, so I'm going to get in some of Bernard Matthews' new Salmon Fillets in a Wholemeal Crumb. They are 60g natural cuts of Atlantic Norwegian salmon, coated in a crisp crumb, naturally rich in omega 3 oils. Don't suppose they'll tempt mum off the cheesy chips, though.

Délifrance DeliVital breads

Délifrance

Speaking of omega 3, it's not just in fish any more. Délifrance UK has launched two healthy eating breads - the DéliVital range - which includes the Vitality Seeded Baguette, packed with sesame and pumpkin seeds and the Omega 3 White Baguette, a good source of fibre and omega 3. That should jazz up our ploughman's lunch. Not that we get many ploughmen in these days, but it pays to be prepared.

Tyrrells breadsticks

Tyrrells

The snacks whizzkids at Tyrrells are branching out with the launch of mini-baked breadsticks, made using natural ingredients and the unique flavour blends Tyrrells applies to its upmarket crisps. They come in 35g bags in two flavours - sour cream & chive and sweet Thai chilli and are a low-fat and low-sodium snack. I can see those going down very well with a nicely-chilled zinfandel.

Veetee American Long Grain Rice

Veetee Foodservice

What's a curry without rice? Although Veetee's American Long Grain rice is better with American, Chinese, Mexican or Spanish dishes. It comes all the way from the fertile Mississippi basin - but I get it at the cash & carry. Combine it with summer vegetables such as tomatoes, red peppers and red onions, for a Mexican salad with a spicy kick that's also light and healthy. A bit like me...

Millac Gold

Pritchitts

Come on Tim! Or is it Andy this year? Just in case we get a Brit past the first round of Wimbledon, I'm planning to lay in some stocks of Millac Gold, the dairy cream alternative from Pritchitts, to dollop on strawberries. There's also Roselle Supreme, a slightly sweetened version. Both products have the benefit of ambient storage and an eight-month shelf life. So if the tennis is another bloody disaster, I can hang on to them for Christmas.

Brakes Premiere authentic Indian dishes

Brakes

Now that we're open later, I don't see any reason why our regulars need to slope off to the Bengal Tiger takeaway down the road after a few pints. We're stocking these lovely new Premiere Indian dishes, which have been developed exclusively for Brakes by experienced Indian chefs using authentic recipes. They can be microwaved or oven baked, and the range includes King Prawn Balchao Curry, Chicken Goan Curry, Saag Paneer & Bombay Potato, Malabar Chicken Curry Khatte Meethe Aloo & Tandoori Chicken Roti Flatbread and Lamb Masala Curry. Our lager's colder than the Bengal Tiger's, too...
