A licensee who used a Welsh flag as target practice at a St George's Day event has been questioned by police over alleged racism.

Angie Sayer used the Welsh flag, and its dragon in particular, for customers to fire arrows at in a St George's day event.

She said it was the only large image she could find to "slay the dragon" like the patron saint of England.

The complainant is understood to have reported her as a joke, which backfired when police arrived to question her.

Mrs Sayer denied being racist in any way and said: "We used the flag because it was the only dragon we could find. We had people in here from Wales when we had the competition and they seemed to be enjoying it.

"A week later the police came round to say they had an anonymous complaint that I was a racist and wanted to know if I knew who it was."

She added: "How on earth can the police come down for things so silly as that when there's an awful lot of other things far more horrific that need to be sorted out? I'm not anti-anybody at all."

An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said no formal objection had been made.

We've has the drug swab test in Sussex, which they say they know nothing about, we have the Manchester police say they didn't use powers under the licensing act to close pubs as reported. We have had the Welsh police trying to enforce conditions on licensees, now with have the police investigating a non crime. It has to be said that if they have so little to do then perhaps a walk along any High Street in a big town would be an eye opener. It was St Georges Day he slayed dragons, probably Welsh ones. These officers should get a life."

Ken Nason via email 07/06/2007"This is just indicative of how our once loved and respected police force has now sadly and frightningly become a tool of their politically correct masters in Downing street.

They no longer serve the people but those in power.

Treating law abiding subjects( not citizens! as we are still a monarchydespite what Blair wants) as criminals at the slightest complaint seems to be the in thing.

This extends to the zealous nature of actions against licensees at every opportunity even though they are trying their best in very difficult circumstances to be law abiding.

Making a complaint about drug dealers or muggers on the street will seldom bring such swift reactions and desire to uphold the laws of our once fair land.

Could that be that it is because they don't know where they live and it might just involve some police work rather than massaging clear up rates?

I wonder?
