Pubs still have chance to enter the contest to find the Great British Pub, with a £1,000 award up for grabs.

In association with The Publican, Whitby Seafoods is running the Whitby Breaded Scampi Great British Pub Challenge, where you could win £1,000 to benefit your pub community, plus the prestigious title. To give all pubs the chance to enter, the firnal deadline for entries has been extended to Friday, June 16.

Traditionally, pubs have been at the heart of the community. It's a place where the local population gathers and pulls together to support charitable causes, local schools and businesses. It also provides a social environment where people can become a member of pub teams and clubs, take part in quiz nights, play board games, read the papers or watch televised sporting events.

Whitby Seafoods and The Publican are scouring the nation to find the best traditional and community-led pub, seen by its locals as the champion of traditional pub dishes and real ale, while also working for the benefit of the community.

How to enter

Fill out a questionnaire on different aspects of your pub - from how you promote classic pub food dishes to how you support the local community - and why you deserve the prestigious title of Great British Pub. In addition, Whitby will supply each publican with a poster to display in the pub for punters to sign to nominate their local for the award.

Entries will be judged by marketing and sales director of Whitby Seafoods, Laura Troughton, John Porter, Pub Food editor of The Publican, and Ros Shiel, marketing manager, Beautiful Beer. The top three pubs with the highest number of nominations will then be given everything they need to host a sponsored British-themed pub night serving Whitby scampi, which the judges will visit to determine the overall winner.
