Famous chef Fanny Cradock's son Christopher Chapman is selling his pub after 40 years.

Jane and Christopher Chapman have spent four decades behind the bar at the Ship Inn, Axmouth in Devon.

Jane, 60, and Christopher, 77, have decided to retire and sell the Punch Taverns lease.

Over the years the pair have seen a huge change to the trade. Jane said: "When we first became tenants at the pub, we never imagined we'd be here 40 years later, but we enjoy the way of life so much.

"Back in 1966 there were just two bars and in winter, the dining room would form part of our living area. There's been a lot of change since then."

The trade area now boasts a main bar with 28 covers, a non-smoking restaurant and locals bar with 20 covers, a newly-appointed catering kitchen and a skittle alley/function room.

The first floor is set out as owner's accommodation with three bedrooms, a lounge, office and bathroom.

The 10-year rolling lease commenced in June 2000 and is fully renewable. Turnover is roughly £230,000 and the rent is currently £33,000 a year.

Agent Stonesmith is marketing the lease at £120,000.
